We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NIV
While persecution against the church is nothing new, last year the level of persecution reached historic numbers. According to Open Doors USA, in 2014 over 100 million Christians faced major consequences such as beatings, imprisonment and death for their beliefs. Islamic extremism and increased persecution in Christian-majority countries are two factors that have caused this rise according to David Curry, president of Open Doors. According to the report, 2015 has the potential to be even worse if this trend continues.
Nov. 1 and 8 were the International Days of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. In response to the suffering of our brothers and sisters across the globe, it is important for us as Moody students to join in solidarity with them by lifting them up to our heavenly Father.
